Light: Plant in dappled or semi-shade, ideally in a woodland situation.

Temperature: Hardy to -5°C, but protect during particularly cold winters by insulating the crown and stem with straw and horticultural fleece.

Watering: Maintain consistently moist soil; water the trunk daily during hot weather.

Feeding: Apply liquid fertiliser from the second year after planting, spraying it onto the crown and stem regularly.
