Contrary to popular belief Leylandii trees can be maintained as a superb dense formal hedge If regular trimming is carried out from the start. Leylandii can be used effectively as a windbreak and will also reduce noise pollution. Leylandi are tolerant of most types of soils and conditions. Green Leylandii maybe marginally faster growing than the Castlewellan Gold Leylandii variety which tend to put more energy into bushing out. Although, In terms of achieving a filled hedge at 6 foot high, there would not be much between two varieties and it is more a choice of colour preference. An excellent choice for a fast growing evergreen that will create a hedge or screen relatively quickly. For best results plant every 40cm (3 per metre).
