Privet can be grown as a small formal hedge or a large hedge.It is evergreen/semi-evergreen (can lose foliage when transplanted in Winter) and can provide excellent shelter and privacy.

The denseness provides an ideal nesting site for small birds.A hedge will grow quite quickly up to about 8-10ft(2.5-3m). For a neat looking it can be clipped twice a year.It will tolerate most conditions including shade and exposed areas. Cut the hedge back to 30cm at planting and prune hard in the first 2 years. The plants have been grown in the nursery for 2 years and will have an excellent root system ready for planting. Plant 15-45cm(6-18 inches) apart depending on how thick you want.
