Photinia ‘Carre Rouge’ (Otherwise known as Photinia ‘Mandarino’) is a compact, upright, evergreen shrub with dark, glossy lanceloate leaves. The new leaves are a much darker red than the classic Photinia ‘Red Robin’ before they turn a dark green. During spring they get small creamy, white branching clusters of flowers.

Photinia ‘Carre Rouge’ (Photinia ‘Mandarino’) is happy in sand, loam or clay, though it is important to be in free draining soil as it is happiest there and will grow much better there. In regards to light levels, it can tolerate partial shade but is happiest in full sun. It goes leggy or more sparse in full shade.

Photinia ‘Carre Rouge’ (Photinia ‘Mandarino’) can grow approximately 60cm a year if un trimmed and in good conditions once it is established. It has a max height of up to 2.5m with a similar spread, though this can easily be maintained at a lower height and spread.

Photinia ‘Carre Rouge’ (Photinia ‘Mandarino’) has a RHS hardiness rating of H5, this means it can survive temperatures down to -10 to -15C. It can survive in exposed positions though grows much better if it is sheltered.

In regards to pruning, remove dead or crossing branches. As a hedge, prune after flowering in late Spring to Summer.
