Cucumber Cetriolo White Wonder

A small white gherkin, ideal for preserving sott'aceto.

Also known as Bianco Moscatello in Italy.

A great outdoor Heirloom variety which originated in America in 1893.

Attractive creamy-ivory, 7 inch long fruits with delicious white crispy flesh and mild sweet flavour are reliably produced in abundance on good strong vigorous plants that can be left on the ground or grown with support.

Very easy variety to cultivate with minimal care required.

Sow: from March - Mid August

Very quick growing and prolific in habit. Produces a mass of fruit.  Very easy to grow with minimal support.

Sowing Time: February to April.

Germination: Germinates at 20°C.

Sowing Instructions: Sow seeds in 1cm (½in) deep in 8cm (3in) pots of moist compost. Germination usually takes 10-12 days.

Growing Instructions: Acclimatise the plants to outdoor conditions before planting outdoors after all risk of frost has passed 60cm (24in) apart. Plant in a sunny sheltered spot, in fertile moist but well drained soil and keep well watered.

After Care: Harvest the fruits before they reach full size for improved quality and better cropping.

Planting cucumbers:

1. The site should be warm and sheltered, with direct sunlight. Dig a hole at least 300mm (12 in) square and deep.

2. Thoroughly mix the dug soil with about the same amount of compost. Make sure that the mixture is not lumpy, then fill the hole with it.

3. Holding the plant by the root ball, lower it into a hole made in the mixture of soil and compost. Firm it in gently, then water it.

4. If you train the cucumber plant up a support, tie the stem securely at several points – it will later have to bear a considerable weight.

Site: Sunny, sheltered

Soil: Rich and moist, with compost well dug in

Sow: Late April—May indoors; late May—June outdoors

Harvest: Regularly, before fruits have matured fully

It is recommended that you feed every two weeks with a tomato based feed
